John Issa, MD-PhD
John is an Assistant Professor in Neurosciences at CWRU. He completed his MD-PhD at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering. Under the mentorship of David T. Yue of the Calcium Signals Lab and Eric D. Young of the Neural Encoding Lab, for his doctorate he studied the functional organization of mouse auditory cortex using multiscale Ca2+ imaging techniques. He then moved to Northwestern University for his postodoctoral fellowship with Daniel Dombeck, where he developed new techniques for optical imaging of entorhinal cortex and behavior using virtual reality to study how memory circuits encode reward. Now John has opened the Neural Signals Lab at Case, where the lab will study how the brain represents information about an experience to form a memory.
